Security cameras can be an expensive investment, and some people are turning to imitation cameras to deter criminals. But what are the pros and cons of installing ‘fake’ cameras?
Although risky, fake cameras can save you money and still act to deter criminals and vandals.
Installing imitation cameras also saves you money which allows you to put extra funds into the critical, final defences of the security infrastructure. The criminals who are deterred by the cameras will not approach the property, but the criminals who intend to rob the building will have to contend with the increased protection of the critical security systems.
The obvious disadvantage is that imitation cameras provide no recordings and, should an incident occur, can’t be used to identify the criminal.
Imitation cameras can also provide you with a false sense of security. A seasoned criminal may take no notice of the plastic looking at them. Whilst you believe they are protecting your property, they are not.
