What are the Three DVR Types for a CCTV System?

When you are looking to upgrade or get a new CCTV System, one important part to look into is the type of Digital Video Recorder (DVR) that you will need. If you are not recording you your CCTV footage, you are greatly reducing the effectiveness of your security system. Recording helps to catch or charge potential culprits of theft.

Three Types of DVR’s

1. Embedded DVR’s: are stand-alone devices that record the camera inputs on a local HDD. They are for closed, co-located, internal networks.

2. PC based DVR’s: are integrated into a personal computer with a network card, motherboard, video board and records on a memory drive. You can easily add more memory to these systems with hard disk drives.

3. Hybrid DVR’s: can accept video input from IP cameras and CCTV so that you can integrate different types of cameras for various areas, for higher resolution, IP cameras, in high-risk areas.

By understanding the three different types of DVR’s, it will be easier to choose which is best for your CCTV system.
